Church House Toilet Core RefurbishmentPrint Case Study

Value: £445,000
Duration: 18 weeks
Quantity Surveyor: Synergy
Architect: Lawray

Church House is the headquarters of the Church of England, occupying the south end of Dean’s Yard next to Westminster Abbey in London.  The building is the home of the administrative offices for the Church Commissioners.

The current building, designed by Sir Herbert Baker, is a 1930s replacement of the original building officially opened by King George VI in June 1940.

We carried out the phased toilet refurbishment within the building across six floors.  The works required the initial stripping out of the existing toilets, including minor demolition works.  These works were carried out during operational hours and required all waste materials to be hand balled through the occupied office environment, down the main staircase and out of the building through the basement car park to a waiting waste carrier vehicle.

The stripping out was followed by a complete refurbishment to include new sanitary ware, services and a full decoration package.
