New Crypt at Christ Church SpitalfeildsPrint Case Study

Value: £2,400,000
Duration: 56 weeks
Quantity Surveyor: Pierce Hill
Architect: Dow Jones

Christ Church Spitalfields, located in the City, is Grade I listed.   Built between 1714 and 1729, the building was constructed to an original Nicholas Hawksmoor design, and remains in use as an operational place of worship.

The project involved the initial stripping out of existing fixtures, fittings,  and M&E services.

Minor demolition and structural alteration works took place including the installation of new below ground drainage and the forming of a new lift shaft.  As a Grade I listed building sp

ecialist stone repairs were carried out and the vault ceilings replastered using traditional lime plaster.
In order to be compliant with the Equality Act requirements, a new passenger lift was

nstalled and a ramp created at the main entrance.

A full refurbishment package was carried out within the crypt to include flooring, fixtures and fittings, catering areas and toilets.  Due to the listed nature of the building all works were carried out with a sympathetic regard to the building fabric and conservation requirements.
