St Martin in the Fields High School for Girls - New Teaching BlockPrint Case Study

Value: £1,200,000
Duration: 42 weeks
Quantity Surveyor: Keegans
Architect: Keegans

We built the new classroom block encompassing four additional classrooms, a drama studio including a lighting rig and an office.

Following initial demolition of existing out-buildings and clearance of the site, we constructed a new two-storey sustainable building. The building included a sedan (green) roof, natural ventilation and zone control lighting.
The project involved an extensive external works package encompassing a nature trail and garden in the school grounds. To maximise sustainability on this project plants removed from the construction site were replanted in the grounds and the trees were turned into wood chips to create a walkway through the new nature area.

The project required the site compound to be located on the school tennis courts with a temporary walkway created across the site to allow the children to move safety from one side of the school to the other. As works progressed access and egress points across the site were required to be altered to ensure safe passage around the school for the pupils and for programme conditions to be met.

This project achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’
