St Mary Abchurch Investigation WorksPrint Case Study

Description:

Value: £111,000
Duration: 3 weeks
Structural Engineer: Alan Baxter Associates

Working for London Underground, we undertook the investigation works at the National Monument listed status St Mary Abchurch.

Works included the opening-up of the roof space to allow an assessment of the condition of the current building to be made by the Structural Engineers.

The building sits adjacent to Bank Underground Station.  The station is subject to a £600m renovation project to upgrade the station and create a new service tunnel, therefore investigation works have been required to assess the condition of the adjacent building.  As a National Monument Wren designed building, it is imperative that the building structure is not compromised.

A survey of the dome was carried out, and walkways were provided for future access for contractors (undertaking the underground extension works) to continually access and assess the building condition throughout works.

The investigation works were required to be made-good using traditional methods and materials such as horse hair and lime mortar.
