Royal Mews Daimler Garage, Refurbishment

Value: £125,000
Duration: 10 weeks

The Royal Mews (combined stables, carriage house and in recent times, a garage) is located at the Grade I listed Buckingham Palace, and allows the public access to the royal collection of historic coaches & carriages.

We completed the re-roofing and internal refurbishment of the Limousine Garage, which comprised the removal of the existing seam lead roof, and subsequent replacement with a lightweight Terne-coated stainless steel roof. The roof was supported on new steel trusses inserted into intermediate positions to support the new roof.

Further works were carried out to provide new lighting and upgrade the existing building services. Following this work a full redecoration package was undertaken.

A number of stagecoaches and other carriages are located there, along with thirty horses. The garage also houses the state motor cars. Coachmen, grooms, chauffeurs and other staff are accommodated in flats above the carriage houses and stables.
