We completed the redevelopment of a permanent exhibition at the Museum of Methodism which is housed in the crypt of Wesley’s Chapel, in City Road, London. The Grade I listed Chapel’s site is a complex of Georgian and Victorian buildings within a Georgian courtyard.

The main aim of the project was to refresh the exhibition area in the crypt of the Chapel, which had become tired, and to enlarge the available space. The exhibition area was initially subject to a complete strip-out, then remodelled and refurbished to provide new and updated display and visitor areas.

A second phase of works involved the structural alteration and widening of the existing emergency stone steps leading from the crypt to the memorial garden, and the creation of a new exit from the museum. In order to facilitate these works, careful hand excavation of the area was required in conjunction with a team of archaeologists to ensure that buried human remains could be identified and reinterred.
