Coniston secure £7.5m conservation of Sheerness Dockyard Church

Coniston are delighted to announce our successful appointment as Main Contractors for the £7.5m restoration of the Dockyard Church Project in Sheerness. Following our completion of the enabling package to shore up the 1828 – Grade II* listed building, we will carry out the full conservation package commencing November 2020.
The project will comprise the restoration of the external listed fabric including new windows and the replacement of the roof. The interior will be completely renovated and transformed to form an education, leisure and working space including an exhibition area, café, offices and meetings rooms.
With a core grant of £4.2m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Sheerness Dockyard Trust has secured the funding required to reinstate this landmark hub. Working with the Kent Youth Support Trust, the completed building will provide affordable business space and all associated support for young entrepreneurs starting up new businesses. The renovated Church will also be a permanent new home for a section of the huge model of the Dockyard, designed by Engineer John Rennie.
