Denton Antiques on Kensington Church Street, remains historically the first antique shop to open in this area. Mrs Mary Elizabeth Crick opened her first book/ antique shop in Kensington Church Street around 1900, where she displayed and sold her first chandelier, for 100 guineas and from this success she decided to start selling chandeliers. Gradually the chandeliers took precedence over books as they became more popular.

We carried out the extension to the commercial premises involving extending the current shop to create more space for the chandeliers. The extension involved underpinning the foundations to the building and reducing the basement level by one metre. The project also involved redeveloping the shop into a contemporary and up-market floor space including the construction of a glass staircase in the centre.

The antiques remained in-situ throughout the works, requiring comprehensive protection systems to ensure they were not damaged during construction works. The project required the strengthening of walls and ceilings to take the weight of the chandeliers that following completion of the project were re-distributed throughout the new retail space.
