The Victoria & Albert Museum, John Madejski Garden Remodelling

Value: £2,500,000
Duration: 16 weeks

We undertook the groundworks package for the Madejski Garden at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The project required the excavation of the existing garden to facilitate the construction of a new pond with water features, seating area, lemon garden and cafe area. The Garden is located in the very centre of the Museum and enclosed on all four sides. Waste materials were removed, by hand, via the galleries adjacent to the garden. Coniston were integral to the success of the project planning and carrying out a number of cost and time saving measures for the Museum. For example, thrust boring underneath the Museum itself to enable service provision to the garden to negate the need to dig up the adjacent gallery floor.

The garden was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on completion.

The Museum remained open through-out all works requiring noise and disruption to staff and guests to be kept to an absolute minimum.
