The Wallace Collection, Front Entrance & Shop Refurbishment

Value: £500,000
Duration: 15 weeks
Architect: Purcell
Quantity Surveyor: Alan Pfeffer

Coniston secured a four-year Partnering Agreement at the Wallace Collection, undertaking a number of projects as part of the arrangement.

One of these projects was the internal and external refurbishment. This involved the sympathetic repair, remodelling, and upgrading of the existing Grade II listed front entrance of the building, together with a complete joinery package, fibrous plasterwork and gilding. External works included new ramp layouts to each side of the entrance to meet with DDA requirements. An alternative temporary entrance to the side of the museum was created for acces, safeguarding the public.

We also undertook the full refurbishment of the shop and reception area. Works involved an initial strip-out, including minor demolition works, mechanical and electrical installation and adaptations to existing services, fibrous plaster alterations, marble flooring and floor matting and french polishing to joinery. Due to the nature of the work and building fabric at the Wallace Collection, all work was required to be completed to the exacting given required by the Museum. Parts of the Museum are Grade II listed structures, requiring any work to be in keeping with the original building.
