National Gallery, East Wing Galleries Refurbishments

Value: £3,600,000
Duration: 91 weeks
Architect: Pucell
Quantity Surveyor: Ridge & Partners

We worked at the National Gallery completing refurbishment to roof areas and connecting galleries – 41/42, 43/44 and 45/46, in three phases.

The works comprised of temporary roofing works, replacing patent glazing, blinds, drainage, roof insulation and covering and mansard cladding works. Additionally, finishes to the internal areas of the roof voids and the gallery rooms as well as mechanical and electrical works were completed.

A scaffold, gantry, goods hoist and temporary roof was erected during the works period. Throughout each phase the scaffold and temporary roof was adjusted to suit the works.

The gallery is located in Trafalgar Square, which is extremely busy with vehicles and people. Coniston managed the works with difficult access, and around the operational functions of the museum.
