St John’s Waterloo is a landmark church in the heart of London, home to an orchestra, a festival, employment courses and a host of climate change activities.
It has served the community since 1824 and was first restored in 1951 as the Festival of Britain church, welcoming denominations from across Britain and the Commonwealth.
Now in need of an extensive refurbishment and re-configuration programme, St John’s has appointed Coniston as the Main Contractor to deliver £5million of carefully planned works over a 40-week programme commencing in the summer of 2020.
The renovations will be funded by the Reignite 2021 campaign*, and will create new usable spaces to accommodate:
ARTS
– State-of-the-art performance space
– Exhibition space
– New home for Southbank Sinfonia
COMMUNITY
– An open building, accessible for all
– Community & Employment Training Centre
– Attractive co-working spaces
ENVIRONMENT
– A remodelled, carbon-positive Crypt
– The latest low-carbon technology, including air-source heat pumps and microgeneration photo voltaic roof panels.
– Extensive wrap-around garden, leafy oasis in busy traffic spot, open to all
We will be working to bring to life the vision of the award-winning architect, Eric Parry, who has designed a sensitive renovation, respecting the history of St John’s while embracing its exciting future.
“The overall vision is to create an open door, a welcome space for different uses, from the formal to the informal. Capacity for the solemnity on the one hand and celebration on the other.”
– Eric Parry, Architect
A Ceilidh fundraiser will be held at 6.30pm on Friday 3rd January 2020. More information at *www.stjohnswaterloo.org/reignite
