We undertook a major refurbishment at The People’s Palace, a 1930´s Grade II listed Art Deco theatre / picture palace. The project involved the complete renovation of the theatre and all associated communal areas. The entrance was completely remodelled to create a semi-circular balcony overlooking the main foyer, where new custom made joinery items were installed to create a new booking booth and bar area.

The construction works comprised major structural alterations creating new improved access routes to the complex multi-function building. A comprehensive mechanical and electrical package was installed with new air handling units and chiller positioned on the roof of the building. A new theatre lighting and sound package including performance lighting, working lights and house lighting managed from a new control booth and remote desk location was added.

Part of the works involved the complete refurbishment of the main performance theatre, the ‘Great Hall’, which seats 650 people and boasts one of the largest performance stages in London. The decorating works included gilding to the dado rail that runs around the entire theatre area and through the seated dress circle area. A large proportion of the works were undertaken with the three lectures theatres within being fully functional.
