The iconic Reliance Arcade in Brixton, sat between Electric Lane and Brixton Road, has been undergoing a well-deserved renovation for 11 months and is now ready to be shown off!
Created in the early 1920s inside an existing Georgian residential property, the Art Deco style Grade II listed arcade now accommodates 27 small businesses, housed within 40 retail units.
Coniston began the restoration programme at the site in April 2019 and will be handing over at the end of March 2020, saving the Arcade from the English Heritage ‘At Risk’ list.
As well as the reinstatement of the shopfronts, original canopy and iconic rainbow entrance on Brixton Road, Coniston have been completing repair works to the existing slate roof, new glazing and restoration work to remove unoriginal features and repair the originals.
Coniston would like to thank all the small businesses at the Arcade for their cooperation during the works. They have continued to trade throughout the programme and their support has been vital in making this restoration a success.
