St Martin in the Fields High School for Girls, New Block

We built the new classroom block, creating four additional classrooms and a drama studio including a lighting rig and an office.

Following initial demolition of existing out-buildings, we constructed a new two-storey, sustainable building which included a sedan (green) roof, natural ventilation and zone control lighting.

The project involved an extensive external works package including a nature trail and garden in the school grounds. To maximise sustainability on this project, plants removed from the construction site were replanted in the grounds and the trees were turned into wood chips to create a walkway through the new nature area.

The work required the site compound to be located on the school tennis courts with a temporary walkway created across the site to allow the children to move safety from one side of the school to the other. As works progressed, access and egress points across the site had to be altered to ensure safe passage around the school for the pupils, and for programme conditions to be met.
