Social Value at Coniston
Creating lasting value through the way we work, the opportunities we create and the communities around our projects. At Coniston, social value is embedded in how we operate and how we deliver our projects.
We define social value in three ways:
Core Social Value
The positive outcomes that naturally come through construction, including job creation, training, apprenticeships and volunteering.
Innovation
Bespoke initiatives developed in collaboration with our clients and partners to address specific social challenges.
Added Value
Activities shaped by local needs analysis, ensuring our approach responds directly to the priorities of each community we work in.
Our commitments support several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including good health and wellbeing, quality education, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities.
In practice, this includes our Check In, Connect, Communicate mental health initiative, local procurement and employability support, and our Management Trainee Scheme. Delivered in partnership with Loughborough University, the scheme provides placement opportunities for construction management and quantity surveying students.
We are also committed to encouraging a more diverse future workforce across traditional trades. Through engagement with schools, colleges and community groups, we promote opportunities for young women, people from diverse backgrounds and those in deprived areas.
This includes routes into skills such as masonry, specialist plastering, stone cleaning and conservation.
Our partnership with Chapter One further supports this ambition, providing one-to-one reading support for primary school pupils whose first language is not English. The programme helps to build confidence, improve literacy and support children’s wider development.
